The Intimate Theatre
Tucked behind the Little Theatre on Orange Street, The Intimate Theatre was first built as part of an
emergency plan after the drama department studios burned down in the 1950’s.
The building was to be used as a student working space.
In the 1970’s former CAPAB Puppetry master Keith Anderson used the space as a puppet theatre.
The Intimate Theatre was re-opened by Christopher Weare and Patrick Curtis, in 2002 as a space
primarily for newly established professionals to experiment and produce work without crippling
theatre rental preventing new work from being staged.
Since then, The Intimate has staged countless new South African works, launched new performers
and their plays and drawn veteran South African icons to its boards.
